Our inspection report recommended removing the bathroom vinyl. Shockingly, not due to its extreme ugliness, but rather because of the darkening spot beneath it where water from the shower had permeated.
I already possessed the inclination to rid the house of the 'ugly' bathroom floor so, tile was purchased and the vinyl removed (sounds simple, eh?).
Actually we removed a couple of layers. Because no matter how ugly the original vinyl is, it's still not as ugly as the vinyl it's covering. Sigh.
Original bathroom floor:
Tearing off the synthetic molding brought a sharp cry for spackle from my throat. As in, we're going to need more. What a piece of shit. It was otherwise very satisfying to rip off and came out in two large pieces.
The floor itself started to come off easily and then we realized why. It was on top of another. An older and more ghastly vinyl was adhered to the floor beneath it.
Those are my arms. They are screaming but you can't hear them. I have a giant raised lump on my left arm, the look of which has been likened to that of a depraved teenage boy. It made it a challenge to lift a drill the next day.
When we called it good, this is what it looked like. It seems that the floor was a bit of a hodgepodge.
